Partition Coefficients are useful in areas such as:

  • drug, pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry
  • toxicology
  • environmental chemistry
  • quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR)
  • hydrophilic/lipophilic balance of organic compounds

The Databank contains experimental data on more than 20000 organic compounds (C1 to C130: gases, liquids and solids) including:

  • drugs and pharmaceuticals (steroidal and non-steroidal)
  • poisons and toxins
  • amino acids and peptides
  • acid-base addition compounds
  • PCBs (176 congeners) and PAHs
  • other chlorinated compounds
  • herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and insecticides
  • dyes, substituted phenols and other wastewater solutes

  • pKa values
  • S.M.I.L.E.S. notation
  • details of measurement (see example below)
  • recommended Log KOW values
  • full bibliography in Chemical Abstracts style
